University of nORTH CAROLINA AT GREENSBORO
Licensure Areas Offered:
Program Highlights:
NC TEACH is a rigorous, high-quality program designed to recruit, prepare, and support college graduates and mid-career professionals as they enter the field of teaching in North Carolina. UNCG offers two NC TEACH licensure-only programs: the Post-Baccalaureate Program and the Undergraduate Program. Candidates are enrolled in one of the two programs based on their area of study. Upon entering NC TEACH, the transcripts of each candidate are reviewed. Candidates receive a program of study that lists NC TEACH course requirements and additional coursework, if any, that are necessary to obtain licensure. After successfully completing the NC TEACH program of study, as well as meeting the teaching portfolio and licensure testing requirements, candidates are recommended for a Standard Professional I teaching license. NC TEACH provides continual support for candidates, from early advising through completion of the program. A full-time Licensure Advisor provides candidates with information about coursework and licensing requirements. Field-based mentors and members of the NC TEACH cohort offer feedback and support that lateral entry teachers welcome as they begin their careers. Candidates in the Post-Baccalaureate Program study at the graduate level and typically begin their coursework with an intensive Summer Institute during which they earn 6-9 credits. They take additional courses in the fall and spring on schedules that are convenient for teachers. The coursework focuses on the specific knowledge and skills that new teachers need. In addition, if they apply and are accepted to a graduate program, candidates may transfer credits to a Master's degree. Special Elements of the Post-Baccalaureate Program:
Candidates in the Undergraduate Program take coursework at the undergraduate level, and receive advising and mentoring support throughout their teacher preparation program. Candidates may begin their coursework during any semester.
